SMADA are the parents supporters group, which was formed approximately 30 years ago to support music at the Academy. The Group primarily raise funds and also travel to support all the bands within the Academy at the various concerts, events and festivals. SMADA meets at the Academy on the first Tuesday of every month during term time from 7.00 pm. SMADA have since 2000 raised nearly £200,000 in order to assist with the Music Department at the Academy. The Supporters of Music at Abraham Darby Academy (SMADA) became a Registered Charity in September 2010 and is now registered with the following number 1137782 and has also secured recognition with the HM Revenue and Customs for Gift Aid. You can also support the band by donating by text which is a service that has been established in partnership with Just Text giving by Vodafone. UK supporters can donate to the Supporters of Music at Abraham Darby Academy (SMADA) by sending a text message via your mobile phone. Please text the message BAND10 - followed by the amount that you wish to donate (for example BAND10 £5) to the following number 70070. You will also have the opportunity to Gift Aid your donation, which could be worth as much as 28 pence for every pound you donate, at no cost to you – as long as you are a UK tax payer. Over the past few years a sub-committee has been formed, whose principal aim is to seek various external funding through various sources including lottery funding and also to seek sponsorship for the bands. This sub-committee has been very successful in the past and has been able to secure funding from various sources. The sub-committee continually works hard to extend funding and is always looking for further funding opportunities.
SMADA are always on the lookout for new members and the Annual General Meeting is held every September. N.B. Please note that if you are considering offering your voluntary services to the work of SMADA you will be required to undertake the process in obtaining a clear Enhanced CRB Disclosure - Application Forms will be available from Saturday Morning Music College on request.
