The Academy has established many Bands to which the Academy Students and pupils from the adjacent feeder schools can attend during the week and also on Saturday mornings at the Music College. These provide opportunity for youngsters to initially gain initial experience of bands prior to transferring to the many Academy Senior Bands.
The Academy has also for the last five years have held an annual concert in which they have hosted concerts with top internationally renowned Brass Bands, and these have included Desford Colliery Band, Fodens Richardson Brass Band, Sellers International Band, Sovereign Brass Band, Tredegar Town Brass Band and Jackfield Elcock-Reisen Brass Band. The Academy has also welcomed the Prince of Wales (Clive Division) Band and more recently the Band of the Army Air Corps. A number of these events have also included workshops sessions giving support and encouragement to the Academy band members, followed by a Joint Concert in the evenings. In February 2009, the Academy held their biggest joint concert when they hosted a major concert with the Cory Brass Band from South Wales, the current World and European Brass Band Champions. Musicians from the Academy have also jointly performed with Quiver (a Latin style Jazz Group) and many male voice choirs including Hadley Orpheus, GKN Sankey, Much Wenlock together with a number of other choirs including the Brewood Singers and the Darby Singers.
Band members have been given the opportunity to go on band tours abroad and have visited France, Italy, Holland, Switzerland and Germany in previous years. Concerts have also been given in a number of locations including Disneyland Paris.
In March 2007 the Showband participated in the New York Wind Band Festival, which saw them perform on the stage of the Carnegie Hall. Following on from their visit to New York the Showband were invited to return in March 2010, which saw them again perform at the world famous Carnegie Hall at the Showpiece Evening Concert at the culmination of the 2010 New York International Wind Band Festival.
