The School
Megaband was formed in September 2004 when a decision was
taken to merge the existing Junior Brass Band and Junior Wind
Band into a combined Training Wind Band. The Megaband was named
by the Junior Band Members themselves.
The Band is under
the dual musical direction of Rachel Morton, the School's
Head of Music and David Maplestone, a brass
peripatetic music teacher. Megaband rehearse every Saturday Morning at the
School's Music College, which is free to all junior musicians
within the Community.
SMADS organised an
open rehearsal in October 2004 in the School's Selwyn Theatre
and a further open rehearsal was held in
October 2006. The
Band had it's first public appearance at the Aqueduct Primary
School Fete in June 2005 followed by a concert held at the
Telford International Centre in September 2005.
