The School through
its various bands play an active part in their community and
have performed at many Charity and Civic Events over a long
period of time. These have included:
Annual Ceremony of
Light for the Borough of Telford & Wrekin Council
Annual Civic Carol Service for the Borough of Telford & Wrekin
Council
Annual Council Meeting
Carols in the Park (Town Park Telford)
Severn Hospice -
with the school bands raising some £10000 towards this cause and
Hope House
Local Rotary Organisations - in particular the School hosts an
annual concert on behalf of Ironbridge Rotary that has become
known as the "Tin of Beans" Concert. Members of the local Rotary
group arrange free transport for elderly people who primarily
live in care accommodation to a free concert.
Members of the
school bands play regularly for a number of Parish and Town
Councils and local school events. The various bands have also
regularly played at Dawley and Madeley Christmas Lights and at a
number of local Primary School Fetes.
The Band members
also play at local factory Christmas Dinners and lunches and
also annually play in the Telford Town Shopping Centre and other
local supermarkets during the Festive Period.
Another well known
Community Event is the Annual Carols on the Bridge held on
Christmas Eve on the world famous Ironbridge, which was started
over 30 years ago by the late Bernard Crawforth, a former Deputy
Head of the School and Music Teacher, who indeed supported the
work of the Music Department for many years following his
retirement, and has become a well supported event which saw
over 500 members of the public attending in 2005.
